I just heard, a few days late, that Kim Manners passed on last week. Who knew the death of a stranger could affect me this much? I admit I never watched much X-files after the first season, but Supernatural is hands-down my favourite show and I can say that, in addition to being an excellent director, anything I have ever heard about Mr. Manners has been the highest praise. He had a depth of warmth and commitment in an interview that would draw you in. Anyone else who spoke of him talked about how great he was to work with - from lying in a cold parking-lot puddle to get a shot of the CSM's discarded cigarette, to forgoing protective gear on the set of Supernatural, because if the actors were going to get stung by the swarming bees, then so was Kim. He was known as a crew favourite and for getting the best out of his performers, especially when it was hardest.
